Year 5 visit to
the British Museum
Year 5 have been
studying Ancient Greece as part of their history work this term. They visited
the British Museum to support this work. They started the day in the Parthenon
Gallery using a special app on a tablet to explore the different types of
sculpture found on this iconic building. They found out about how buildings can
tell us about the ideas and beliefs of the people who built them. In the
afternoon they dressed up and became Athenian envoys, sent to visit Darius, the
King of Persia. Here they talked with Darius (played by an actor) and looked at
the artefacts from that time to decide whether they would recommend to the
Athenian assembly that Athens join the Persian Empire or fight to stay
independent. They voted for Independence!
